The mid-sized car, Chevrolet Malibu is produced by General Motors, a parent company of Chevrolet.
First Generation (1964-1967)
The first generation Chevrolet Malibu was offered in two-door station wagon, two-door convertible, coupe hardtop and in 4-door sedan forms. The high performance sports model, Chevrolet Malibu SS was offered as a two-door sport coupe convertible or hardtop.
The standard engine to the model include 6-cylinder version that delivers power up to 300 hp. The sports version SS was replaced by Chevelle SS in 1966. The exterior styling of the model was changed slightly in 1967, gaining revised tail section with tailgates and new grille. The engine remained same as that of in the initial model.
Second Generation (1968-1972)
The Chevrolet Malibu was totally redesigned for 1968 with fastback rooflines and wheel bases split to 112 inches. Available engine to the model was a V8 version that delivers 200 hp.
Instrument panels and rear decks were revised. Ignition switch moved to the steering column. The Malibu model was offered in station wagon, coupe and in sedan body forms. It was related to Pontiac Grand Am, Chevrolet El Camino, Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Buick Regal.
Third Generation (1973-1977)
The third generation Chevrolet Malibu was totally redesigned again in 1973. Models offered were top-line Laguna, base Chevelle Deluxe and mid-level Malibu.
Production of Deluxe model was dropped in 1974 and the Laguna was replaced by Malibu Classic.
Fourth Generation (1978-1983)
Three body styles were offered in the fourth generation, coupe, sedan and in station wagon. Most of the exterior styling and interior region remain same as that of in the previous model.
Fifth Generation (1997-2003)
New for 1997 was a front wheel drive Chevrolet Malibu. It was designed and produced based on Pontiac Grand Am, Oldsmobile Achieva and Buick Skylark.
Standard engine to the model include a 2.4 liter I-4 version that delivers 150 hp of power, while it also offered 3.1 liter V6 engine as optional.
Sixth Generation (2004-2008)
The sixth generation Chevrolet Malibu was also called as Chevrolet Malibu Classic and Maxx. It was offered in 4-door sedan and in 5-door hatchback body styles. It was designed on the platform of GM Epsilon.
The exterior dimensions of the model were changed. It had the wheel base of 106.3 inches, length of 187.8 inches, width of 69.8 inches and height of 57.5 inches.
Seventh Generation (2009-Present)
The key features that attract potential customers towards the Chevrolet Malibu are its quietness and passenger room. It is largely unchanged for 2008. It shares its basic design with Saab 9-3, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura versions. It is offered in three trim versions, the base model LS, LT and LTZ.
